The highlight of the summer, 4th of July, is nearly upon us!  So, how is Hampton Roads celebrating this year's Independence Day?  With lots of good old-fashioned family fun!  You'll find bike parades, live music, food trucks, and fireworks all over the Seven Cities this holiday weekend.  

4th of July in Chesapeake, 2021

Independence Day Celebration

When:  Saturday, July 3
            11am-4pm

Where:  Great Bridge Battlefield & Waterways Museum
              1775 Historic Way, Chesapeake, VA 23320 

All the details:  Come hear the news from Philadelphia when our town crier reads the Declaration of Independence at 11am & 2pm.  The Youth Virginia Regiment will provide an encampment, perform demonstrations and training drills outside in the park.  The Master Gardeners will have a display table to discuss colonial plantings, and inside the building, you can enjoy colonial music while you take a tour of the beautiful museum and see a demonstration regarding flag etiquette.  This will be a great day for the entire family.

 

Celebrate Freedom

When:  Saturday, July 3
            7pm-10pm

Where:  Chesapeake City Park
              900 Greenbrier Parkway, Chesapeake, VA 23320

All the details:  Celebrate America's Birthday with the U.S. Fleet Forces Band providing stirring patriotic sounds.  Following the concert, fireworks by Pyrotecnico will illuminate the dark sky after sunset. 

The Chesapeake Public Art Committee will be on hand spreading awareness and taking donations for the Chesapeake 9/11 Memorial, along with the Fine Arts Commission's fundraising arm -- ART'S ALIVE!

Bring your own chairs or blanket.

 

Annual South Norfolk July 4th Picnic in the Park Celebration

When:  Sunday, July 4
            1pm-4pm

Where:  Lakeside Park
             1441 Bainbridge Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23324

All the details:  The South Norfolk Civic League and the Chesapeake Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department will present an abbreviated version of this annual patriotic event.  There will not be a regular parade; however, a bike parade with prizes for the best-decorated bike is planned.  

There will be music by "Can You Dig It," with Wayne Clifton in the park.  The South Norfolk Civic League will offer burgers, hot dogs, and drinks for sale.  Other vendors may be available.  

 

4th of July in Newport News, 2021

July 4th Spirit of America Laser Show

When: Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, July 2, 3, & 4

Where:  Virginia Living Museum
              524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601

All the details:  Join us in the Abbitt Planetarium for a celebration of America.  Spirt of America mixes great patriotic music with America-inspired rock & roll and songs that have defined American music.  Rock on to great artists like John Fogerty, Garth Brooks, Lee Greenwood and so many, many more.
Recommended for ages 6+
Advanced ticket purchase is recommended, as this event often sells out.

 

Lionsbridge FC Game & Fireworks

When:  Saturday, July 3
            Game starts at 7pm, pre-game begins at 5pm

Where:  CNU TowneBank Stadium, Newport News, VA 

All the details:  Come enjoy food trucks, craft beer tent, and a bounce house and then stay for fireworks after the game!

 

4th of July in Norfolk, 2021

Fourth of July Great American Picnic & Fireworks

When:  Sunday, July 4
            5pm-11pm

Where:  Town Point Park
             Waterside Drive, Norfolk, VA 23510

All the details:  Leave the grilling to us on the 4th of July and bring your family and friends down to Town Point Park.  Guests can buy traditional all-American fare including hot dogs, hamburgers, bbq, seafood, corn on the cob, watermelon, lemonade...with all the fixin's and much more available for purchase!  Relax on the lawn and enjoy the live entertainment, then watch as the sky lights up with the fireworks display at 9:30pm. This event is free & open to the public!

 

4th of July in Portsmouth, 2021

Historic Cradock 102nd Patriotic Salute

When:  Saturday, July 3
            10:30am - 3pm

Where:  Afton Square, Portsmouth VA

All the details:  The Cradock Civic League presents its 102nd Patriotic Salute, Liberty & Justice for All.  This annual 4th of July celebration features kids games, activities, DJ, food, and patriotic programs.  Mayor Shannon E. Glover will deliver a patriotic salute and welcome for this year's celebration. 

 

Fireworks on the Elizabeth River

When:  Sunday, July 4
            9:30pm

Where:  Olde Towne Portsmouth waterfront. 

All the details:  The cities of Portsmouth and Norfolk share a spectacular fireworks display over the Elizabeth River.  The fireworks display begins around 9:30pm and the best viewing is at the north end of Olde Towne.  Bring out the whole family for this celebration of America!

 

4th of July in Suffolk, 2021

Stars and Stripes Spectacular

When:  Sunday, July 4
            5:30pm - 9:30pm

Where:  Constant's Wharf Park and Marina
              110 E. Constance Road, Suffolk, VA 23434

All the details:  Enjoy the Stars and Stripes Spectacular on July 4th as the skies of Suffolk light up with a fireworks show over the beautiful Nansemond River at Constant's Wharf Park and Marina.  The park will open at 5:30pm with entertainment, children's activities, merchandise vendors and a variety of food choices.  A live band will take the stage at 6pm with a repertoire of songs in a variety of styles.  And evening with this band could range in a musical variety from soft dinner music to Motown, Beach music, Disco, and all your favorites.  The fireworks show will begin at 9pm for the entire family to enjoy.

 

4th of July in Virginia Beach, 2021

Stars and Stripes Celebration and Fireworks at the Oceanfront

When:  Friday, Saturday, Sunday, July 2, 3, 4
            7pm - 11pm; fireworks at 9:30pm on Sunday, July 4 only

Where:  Virginia Beach Oceanfront at 17th & 24th Street Parks

All the details:  Multiple live performances on oceanfront park stages will attract thousands of visitors and residents to a "star-spangled" salute to this great country of ours at the Stars & Stripes Celebration.  Scheduled live entertainment offers something for everyone.

 

July 4th Celebration at Mount Trashmore
